GARIOCH GYMNASTICS CLUB, INVERURIEThree of the clubs gymnasts travelled to Aldershot for the British Challenge Cup on the 25th and 26th November. Unfortunately Jenny Swan was injured the week before the event and had to be content with watching and supporting her team mates. Hannah MacKay (12) from Ellon competed on the Saturday in the Espoir section and put in a steady and solid performance. Hannah is still recovering from a very bad injury over 6 months ago and is still on simplified routines. This is only her 2nd competition this year so the purpose of the competition was to compete with no mistakes. Apart from 1 fall on the beam Hannah had an excellent competition and finished 22nd out of 50 and would probably have been near the top 10 on her full routines - roll on next year! Emma-Louise (15) from Oldmeldrum competed on the Sunday in the Junior section fresh from victory at the Scottish 14+ Championships the week before. Her first piece was bars where her feet slipped off the bar and meant her routine was scored out of 5 instead of 10, this obviously brought her overall score down. Not to be downhearted though Emma-Louise went on to compete terrifically on the other 3 pieces with no mistakes. She was 11th on beam (probably her weakest apparatus) and performed a good clean floor routine and vault. Although the total cost of the weekend was quite expensive all who attended agreed that it was a great weekend and a great competition. The Rushmoor Gymnastics Academy in Aldershot was a terrific venue and there was a very festive atmosphere as it is the last British Gymnastics event of the year. We already have our flights booked for next year!!! |
