SCOTTISH SENIOR/ JUNIOR & LEVEL 2 CHAMPIONSHIPS
SATURDAY 23 RD / SUNDAY 24 TH JUNE2007
BELLS SPORTS CENTRE, PERTH
COMPETITION RESULTS FROM GARIOCH GYMNASTICS CLUB IN INVERURIE.
This is the most prestigious event in the Scottish Gymnastics calendar. Three of the gymnasts from the club took part alongside several girls who travelled up from England to compete, one of whom had represented Scotland in the 2006 Commonwealth Games. The Garioch Gymnasts competing were: Emma-Louise Donald (16) from Oldmeldrum, Hannah MacKay (14) from Ellon and Jessie Smith (11) from Collieston.
SENIOR CHAMPIONSHIPS
Emma-Louise Donald = BRONZE Overall, BRONZE Beam, BRONZE Bars.
Following a very good all round competition on the Saturday where she came 3 rd overall Emma-Louise qualified for finals on Floor, Beam and Bars on the Sunday and had to repeat her excellent performances from the day before. This she managed with great success and managed to secure another two bronze medals against some of the best gymnasts in not only Scotland but also Britain.
JUNIOR CHAMPIONSHIPS
Hannah MacKay took part in the junior section again against some of the finest British and Scottish Gymnasts. Unfortunately she did not compete at her best but must be satisfied that her routines are almost back to the standard they were before a very serious injury last year.
LEVEL 2 CHAMPIONSHIPS
Jessie Smith = BRONZE Overall, BRONZE Beam, BRONZE Bars
Although no English gymnasts took part in this section there were some very talented Scottish Gymnasts taking part and it was always going to be tough to medal. Jessie Smith, although lacking some of the difficulty compared to the best gymnasts there, did compete very clean routines with only one fall on beam on a new skill and managed to secure 3 bronze medals.
This was a tremendous achievement by the Garioch girls at the end of a long training term. This success can only be emulated and built on if the girls have a full time facility to train in. Although our current facility has been more than generous with the training time we get and the amount of equipment we have, it is unfortunately not enough to fulfil our ambitions and the potential of the gymnasts and continue to compete at the highest level in Scotland and beyond. Our club funds are spent quickly replacing our equipment that naturally gets damaged taking it in and out the cupboard 4 days a week. If anyone can help with funding for a building or know of any unused buildings that could be set up as a permanent gymnastics facility please contact the head coach: Janine Lloyd on 01467 628809 or Janine.Lloyd@aberdeenshire.gov.uk
